Prepare the core

Progress checklist

This lab’s core is a NUC6CAY
Intel NUC6CAY — compact x86 PC used as the Greengrass core in this lab (spare unit on hand; any quiet Ubuntu 24.04 x86 host works).
(or another x86_64 host). Ubuntu Server install lives in the shared guide below.

  • Shared guide: install OS, prove SSH.
  • This page: set nuc-gg-edge / ubuntu at Subiquity.
  • Record NUC_USER / NUC_HOST, then SSH in.
  • NUC never needs the AWS CLI.

  1. 1Install Ubuntu Servershared walkthrough
  2. 2Lab overridesnuc-gg-edge · ubuntu
  3. 3Record NUC_HOSTwalkthrough.env
  4. 4Prove SSHssh from workstation
Step 1 is the shared OS guide; 2–4 are this lab's wiring. The NUC never needs the AWS CLI.

Do the whole guide:

The shared guide defaults hostname ubuntu-server. For this lab, at Subiquity Profile use:

sudo hostnamectl set-hostname nuc-gg-edge

Also update /etc/hosts if it still lists ubuntu-server (common Subiquity 127.0.1.1 line).

Terminal window

(Interface name varies — on this NUC6CAYB it was enp3s0.)

Use your LAN IPv4 from ip -br a, not the sample above.
